September is for starting things
Four Tuesdays. The same small group. Something new in your hands each week
No small talk required. Just materials on the table and some creating
Over four evenings, we'll slow down and make things with our hands: drawing and visual arts, shaping and moulding with clay, reflective writing, and in the final week, time to bring it all together. Based in expressive arts, it offers a space to create, express and explore, with a focus on process over perfect. No experience needed, just curiosity and an open mind.
We’ll use guided creative prompts to explore the connections that hold us and shape us: how do we find our spaces, what lives in between, and what makes a place begin to feel like ours?
The series is held in English and takes place in the beautiful NOOE jewellery studio in Kreuzberg.
This is for you if
you've been wanting to create something, but life keeps getting in the way

you’re curious about the spaces that build connection
you'd like to create with a group of other people
you're looking for a safe place to play and explore
you'd like some space to catch your breath
Twelve seats, four Tuesdays
Four weeks, four creative workshops
-
Using simple visual arts and drawing prompts, we'll explore what grounds us, what moves us, and what we carry with us
-
Working with clay in our hands, we'll shape what is here and what is still arriving, at its own pace, in its own way
-
With reflective writing, we'll make space for what wants to be heard, the quiet and loud parts, and follow the lines connecting us.
-
In our final session, we'll bring together what we've made so far and create a response to it, with space and time to reflect and share
The shape of an evening
Each evening follows the same gentle shape. We arrive together, settling in with some easy movement and breath. Then something light and playful to warm up, before we move into the main making of the evening.
Each week has a different material at its centre, with different expressive arts practices woven through. There are moments to share with the group if you'd like to. Sharing is always an invitation, never a requirement, but space is given for you to express yourself, to be heard and seen.
We end each evening together, softly closing what was opened with some quiet reflection and somatic exercises.
This is a journey across four weeks, not a single evening. We create together, week after week, with faces and spaces becoming more familiar as we connect a little more with ourselves and each other.
Expressive arts prompts are open invitations for you to follow what draws your attention, and all sessions are held in English.

Hi, I’m Zoé
Why this series?
We all move between places. The ones we came from, the ones we've found, the ones we're building, the ones we're still looking for.
Some of us arrived in Berlin from somewhere else. Some of us have always been here. Either way, we're all building a life, and part of it is working out how and where we belong.
This series starts from the possibility that the feeling doesn't begin out there, with the city, community or job. It begins closer in, with the question of where something in you softens, where you feel seen, safe to settle, known, at home in your self.
I'm Zoé, an expressive arts facilitator and the founder of the sozo space. Although I have been in Berlin for a long time, I'm still working out what makes spaces and places feel like mine, and where I belong in them. It's something I've seen many people wrestling with in this fast city, where connection can be surprisingly hard to find. This series grew from that. Not how do we make ourselves belong, but what helps a place begin to feel like ours? And what happens when we give ourselves permission to make our way there slowly?
Wherever you are right now, rooted or searching or somewhere in between, you're welcome exactly as you are.
FAQs
-
Not at all. This isn't a skills-based class and nothing gets judged or graded. The materials are simple, the invitations are open, and whatever is created is welcome here.
-
Only ever if you want to. Every sharing moment is an open door, not a stage. You are welcome to take part in whatever way you feel comfortable.
-
We meet at NOOE, Bergmannstraße 59, 10961 Berlin, in Bergmannkiez, Kreuzberg. It's a short walk from U Gneisenaustraße on the U7, with Südstern also nearby. The space is on the ground floor. If you have any access needs, write to me at zoe@thesozospace.com and I'll tell you exactly what to expect.
-
Sometimes life gets in the way, and I get that. The series is built as an unfolding whole, and so please check all the dates before booking. But if you can’t make it one week, I’ll make sure you find your way back into the process smoothly.
-
No. Expressive arts facilitation is a creative practice, not therapy or treatment. It can live alongside any support you already have, but it isn't a substitute for it.
-
Just yourself, in clothes that won't mind a little clay or colour and are comfortable. Everything else is waiting for you, all materials included.
